A powerful white and blue ocean wave is captured at the moment it crests, spraying droplets into the air under a clear blue sky. The turquoise and white foam churns energetically, conveying the ocean's raw strength and motion.

Sometimes you don't need a complex composition, but on the contrary, a simple and clear motif is enough. When this is then supported by the great colors that were seen in the Lofoten Islands in Norway during the winter trip, the result looks good.

Ever since I saw images online of the total solar eclipse that crossed parts of the USA back in 2017 I knew I had to witness this celestial event. I learned that the next total solar eclipse was to occur in 2024 so my mind was set. I was glued to the weather models weeks before the eclipse date and about a week before the event, things were not looking good weather-wise. For several days in advance, the weather models were showing a sprawling but weak low pressure system spreading clouds all across southern Ontario. At the time, Eastern Ontario (Belleville to Cornwall) was forecast to be mainly clear. But as the eclipse drew nearer the forecast was changing as the weather system was advancing to the east quicker than originally anticipated. But the silver lining was that SW Ontario was to experience clearing skies during early afternoon on April 8. So I made my decision to drive down past London and then towards Lake Erie to be in the path of totality.
The path of totality is simply the area that experiences 100% moon coverage of the sun. I had already read from a lot of sources that if you wanted to experience and photograph the full eclipse that you would need to be located within the path of totality.
I scanned Google Maps to find a good location to be able to park and setup my camera. I decided on a public park in the town of Blenheim just southeast of Chatham, Ontario. This ended up being a perfect location as it was very quiet and had a large field so my view wasn't obstructed by trees or any tall buildings. I didn't even need to bring my camping chair as I had a comfy park bench all to myself.
I arrived at my location in plenty of time so I was able to check over all my settings and gear and ensure everything was working and setup properly. The solar eclipse is VERY tricky to shoot as the light changes so much in the moments just before totality and then during totality. I had gone over my camera settings several times prior to make sure everything was just right. As the moon was travelling across the face of the sun the moment was quickly coming close. As the sun became a tiny sliver of light I knew it was just about time. I removed the solar filter from my camera lens and started firing several exposure brackets of nine shots each over and over in succession. I was shooting at 500mm so that meant that I'd have to recompose the sun in my frame every couple mins as the sun and moon moves very fast at longer focal lengths. This was a challenge as well as trying my best not to touch the focus ring on my lens which can be very easily moved accidentally. Focusing at 500mm is very tricky as the area of focus in the focal plane is extremely narrow.
Once totality hit I took off my solar glasses and looked up at the sun. My brain couldn't comprehend what I was seeing as it was such an alien sight. The two minutes of totality came and went so quickly but looking up at the sky to see this whitish ring of fire was absolutely mind blowing !
The image in this post is what's known as the "Diamond Ring." This occurs when the final burst of light from the sun is emitted just before actual totality begins. It also occurs during the opposite time, just after totality is over when the sun is reappearing out the other side of the moon. The diamond ring can be very tricky to capture properly as this light only lasts for 10-15 seconds max and is extremely bright.
By the end of the day I had driven over 700km total to experience the total solar eclipse. The time planning and travelling was definitely worth it !!

During a scouting session in Dolomites, i pass between these rocks that framed perfectly the mountain in front of me, i love the ice on the rock that emphasize the winter condition in that day. The frame it seem a natural triangle and on his center the mountain that was hit by the sunset light.

Some places are just special, Kyoto Japan is one of those places.

A magnificent wave is captured in full crest with droplets illuminated by the golden light of a rising sun. The power of the ocean is palpable as the frothy water crashes and sprays into the air, displaying a dynamic interaction between light and water.

Many of you have heard of La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, as one of the best spots for astrophotography.

Well, it's true. Local laws assure very little light pollution. For example, flyovers are forbidden and street lights are reglemented.

This scenery was shot on the south coast at Faro de Fuencaliente lighthouse. It is an absolutely incredible location not only for astro shots but also for seascapes with crashing waves and volcanic rock formations.

The panorama is timeblended. Blue hour shots for the foreground and night shots for the milky way arch.

It was a fantastic experience and since now one of the images I am most proud of.

A photo from the Mount Hood back country that was shot many years ago while on an late summer overnight trip.

"Land of fire" This is probably one of my favorites places to photograph, Not only for it's incredible landscape but also because is in my hometown and is attached to my soul. The Bardenas Reales is a semi-desert natural region, or badlands, of some 42,000 hectares (420 km2; 104,000 acres) in southeast Navarre (Spain).
The soils are made up of clay, chalk and sandstone and have been eroded by water and wind creating surprising shapes, canyons, plateaus, tabular structures and isolated hills, called cabezos.
Bardenas Reales lacks urban areas, vegetation is scarce and the many streams that cross the territory have a markedly seasonal flow, staying dry most of the year.

I used a YN560III flash triggered with a YN560TX, attached to a Godox 60cm octabox diffuser.

Processed in Lightroom with my color preset and some details with Photoshop.

Canon 5D III at 1/320 2.8 iso 500 with a 24-70 2.8 Canon lens. Shot during a location scout for a shoot the next day. When we got to the barn the sun was setting and pouring through the rear of the barn. No Photoshop just adjusted in Capture One. This was a spray and pray situation because of the horses. The light on her face is from the brim of her hat acting as a bounce from the sunset.

While driving around randomly I found the perfect windows wallpaper landscape!

This is an image taken at my 1:1 January workshop. My work is inspired by Renaissance old master paintings so often my lighting and editing style will reflect that look.

This 8m of red Chiffon I bought quite some years ago has seen quite a lot of use. As a background, flowy fabric underwater or even as a wrapped dress in the snow. This time I hung it from a simple background stand and the lovely @lea.k.2612 stepped in the middle and we turned it around her a few times. Lit by a single flash + softbox from above and I had to touch up the edges of the fabric quite a bit with Photoshop AI.

The aurora borealis in Lofoten is probably the main reason to travel here in winter and it is something that is definitely worth seeing. Of course, it's also a matter of luck if you see it, but when it comes, it's worth it!

I saw this column of balconies in a high rise apartment building in Dallas, Texas. I used photoshop for some aspects like the white frame and brushed out a few distracting elements.

Recently our dream came true: my girlfriend Lilly and I saw the Northern Lights with our own eyes for the first time. For this we traveled to Inari, a small village in northern Finnish Lapland, in the middle of the Arctic Circle. And as with every trip, we decided to take a special souvenir photo that combines our two passions:

Lilly works as a contemporary dancer, I as a photographer. Of course, it would then be obvious to take a photo of Lilly dancing. The problem, however, would be how do we manage to take a sharp photo of her at night with the Northern Lights in the background that still shows movement? For that, we had to work with additional light, especially when it was pitch black outside. Flash light, a photographer's first choice, was not an option because it rather freezes motion in a photograph. So we decided to use a continuous light source in combination with a long exposure and stitch together several images from the same perspective in Photoshop. Small frog (Dendrosophus mathiassoni) perched on a dry and twisted bark. With this picture, despite the fact the frog is not incredible and colorful, I still wanted to create something beautiful using composition, and background (with the help of my Photoshop skills) to emphasize the subject, and trying some kind of monochromatic (or analogous) color theme.

Spending half a day photographing the roaring water is hard for the ears. But it’s not necessarily noise. If anything, it’s mesmerising and meditative. Yes, I love this kind of self healing.

The view of the cherry blossoms that bloomed on the lake side bathing in the morning sun and shining in gold was very beautiful.

The canyon's massive walls, etched by millennia of nature's artistry, are bathed in a soft, radiant glow, as if the very earth were embracing the fading light. Use your words to capture the serenity and grandeur of this awe-inspiring scene, where the world stands still, and nature's beauty reigns supreme.

I found these 3 fluffy ones in Mountains of Rarau from Romania and somehow managed to keep the "pose" like these.

The mysterious world of the Icelandic highlands on a moody day.
This was shot on our way to Landmannalaugar, but while driving into the highlands the weather turned really bad. The rain was pouring down like I have never seen before, turning the road into a river. And eventually we had to give up and return.

In the post processing I have worked with light and shadows. Since it was raining a lot I have also dehazed quite a bit to retrieve some details.
Also saturated and added some extra clarity to the colors.

Beautiful festive colors, pink, blue, golden white brightening every hallway and byway. Colors soft and bright covering the town in a golden glow under a majestic sunset painted sky. Brushstrokes of heavenly beauty on a canvas that spans the seas. Seamless fusion of man’s creation and the glory of nature.

Here's one from a new shoot with Loic, a bodybuilder based in Dublin, Ireland.

Shot with a Nikon D750 and used 3 light studio setup. The key light was an 80cm octabox just above Loic out of frame. I wanted to keep the light quite close to him to make use of faster light falloff (gotta love that inverse square law).

I typically use modifiers on rim lights but these were bare flashes (one either side) as I wanted to keep the light a bit contrasty and dramatic.

It never ceases to amaze how nature can create such dynamic and unique textures like this curvy flow of molten lava.

It remains absolutely mesmerizing in so many ways and is by far the most exciting subject I've ever had the chance to witness.

I shot this in October 2021, during one of the biggest lightning storms I've seen in Southern California in a LONG time. Right place, right time, and right equipment.

The Midi d'Ossau peak rises majestically as a prominent summit in the Pyrenees, reaching an altitude of 2884 meters above sea level. Located in the French department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, near the border with Spain, this imposing natural landmark captivates with its magnificence. The photo was taken at sunset, when the last rays of sun bathed the mountain in golden and pink hues, creating a magical and evocative atmosphere.

Often exploration allows us to discover new places and their wonders, like this wonderful frozen waterfall. I wanted to bring my brother to this place, a place I visited when I was 15 or perhaps even younger, a place of which I only had very vague memories, some snapshots from the early 2000s, a place I wouldn't have been able to find again if not by chance, thanks to the desire to explore new places. I can't describe the joy I felt when I realized I had finally closed a circle left open for 18 years.

The message remains the same: life is short and the world is wide, go out and explore.

The rugged coast of Madeira, Portugal.

This small stream in the Bavarian Alpine foothills winds like a snake through the autumn forest. In order to emphasize the movement in contrast to the still trees, I chose a longer exposure time to smooth out the water.

Shot in Grand Teton National Park in early October of 2006, Mount Moran is just visible in the mists that were drifting along String Lake. Magenta light on the peak was the first light of the impending sunrise. Elk were bugling back and forth across the lake as I took this image. I shall never forget it.
